Lunch Time

The school operates an in-house catering service. Our catering manager, Mrs Jackson, and her team are providing a service to all pupils and staff offering fresh, healthy food with a variety of meals and snacks that represent good value for money.

Meals are freshly cooked on the premises daily and offer two choices of healthy main dishes each day with one being a vegetarian option. Alternatively, pupils can choose a baked potato with a choice of topping or one of our popular paninis. There is also a selection of fresh salad, sandwiches, yoghurts, drinks and fruit. Packed lunches can also be brought from home.

Break Time
Snacks can be bought from the canteen or you can bring in a snack from home.

A 'cashless' system is now in place to buy food from the canteen. This system uses fingerprint recognition technology to link pupils to their individual school dinner accounts. These can be credited by putting cash into the payment machines outside the school hall, or via Parent Pay on the Internet.

Sourcing
As far as is reasonably possible all produce used to prepare meals at Kibworth High School is sourced locally from independent suppliers. We source all of our meat from Patrick and Godwin, his meat is sourced from Market Harborough and he is proud to supply us with local meat. Dry goods are supplied by MKG who also supply to a lot of schools throughout Leicestershire and Rutland. Our vegetable supplier is M & J Reynolds and our delivery driver lives in the village he buys from the whole sale market in Leicester each morning and makes sure all of our vegetables and fruit are fresh. Our supplier of any frozen products is Hopwells who are based in Nottingham. Bread and rolls are brought from John Dwyer who is based in Rugby.

Please be assured that pupils' fingerprints will NOT be stored or passed in any way to other government agencies. The specialist scanners record points from the pupil's finger and converts the information to a code which is then encrypted for extra security. It is this encrypted code that is stored on a secure server on our network, not the fingerprint itself. When a pupil leaves the school their information is permanently deleted from the system.

Both the Information Commissioner and the Department for Education and Skills confirm that they have no Data Protection concerns resulting from this technology being used in school canteens/libraries.

Should you require any further information or have any concerns about this; please can you put them in writing, providing contact details for us to reply to.
